9th Annual State Of The Empire Address
STATE OF THE EMPIRE
9th Annual Address
Queen Mother, Nicole
17 January 2015
Fifty year ago, Empress I Jose, became the first monarch of our now International Court System…… a seed was planted in the city of San Francisco and it grew into a strong royal oak tree, now with branches extending over the three great nations of Canada, the United States and Mexico.
This first month of January marks the beginning our Golden Jubilee … a yearlong celebration of our international Imperial Courts….to begin this coming “Presidents Day Weekend” in San Francisco including a royal event at the historic city hall rotunda of San Francisco. We are honored tonight with the presence of a direct descendant of Empress I Jose, the 49th Absolute Empress of all San Francisco, Misty Blue. We look forward in four weeks to returning to the birth place of our court system and celebrating with Emperor J.P. and Empress Misty and the Imperial Family of San Francisco.
Nine years ago our beloved founder, Empress I Jose crowned me as her successor and Queen Mother of the Americas. On that evening I gave my first State of the Empire address. Today I have selected the Great State of Texas and the proud city of Houston to present my 9th Annual State of the Empire Address.
My reign has been christened as, the Renaissance Era of change and the building of a more democratic monarchy. Working together with the International Court Council, its members and Heirs, Parliament and advisors from throughout the U.S.A and Canada……together we have accomplished many things and helped build a more structured and cohesive court council. This 50th year mark is all of our celebration of what we have become and accomplished within over 68 cities. My message to you all is that let 2015 also be the year we take our rightful place in the history of the GLBT Community and equality movements. I thus urge all courts to chronical and write their individual history…..yes write and put together your own history book 2015….assign a court historian. We must not lose our history and accomplishments. This focus is the official project for 2015….reclaiming our court’s history and our contributions building our communities.
We have in the past year signed an accord the National LGBT Museum of Washington, DC….and will continue to partner with them concerning our courts history. We have also launched a campaign to get Jose Julio Sarria inducted into the California Hall of Fame and the Speaker of the State Assembly. The honorable Toni Atkins has agreed to chair this effort. We have also established an International Student Scholarship where we have over $60,000 already raised.
My commitment to a more democratic monarchy was the establishment of Parliament, giving each court a voice. After much discussion and advisement, I believe the spirit and mission of Parliament will be better served and be more productive with an “International Courts Conference/Convention”, to be held every year beginning in 2016. This year there will be local regional conferences held. A Canadian one in Surrey, BC and a East Coast one in Lexington, Ky. Both have been announced and others will follow. The International Court Council will also focus 2015 into more professional branding and internet outreach….thus, the new ICC banner outside this ballroom and new pamphlets. There will also be a special outreach and membership targeted campaigns aimed at the lesbian, transgender and straight communities, including GLBT people of color…and most importantly the younger generation. Our courts need to adapt to the changing times and reach out new members.
Our court system will have a major presence in three weeks at the 26th annual Creating Change Conference in Denver where over 3,000 GLBT leaders and activists will be in attendance and the National LGBTQ Task Force will be recognizing and honoring our 50th anniversary.
This weekend marks the celebration of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr birthday….and after the success of our Harvey Milk Stamp Campaign, we have partnered with the National LGBTQ Task Force and launching another stamp campaign for civil rights icon, Bayard Rustin…and I am proud tonight that with the help of the Task Force, 11 members of Congress have endorsed our Rustin Stamp Campaign.
And now I have another important announcement to make this evening…….The Imperial Court Council will be partnering with and sponsoring the first of its kind campaign to create awareness of domestic and sexual violence within the GLBT community….”Out With It” will soon be officially launch in the U.S.A. with plans to expand into Canada in the future…….I am proud that we be a major official part of the “Out With It” campaign against GLBT domestic violence.
Nine years ago we put into place a zero tolerance policy of discrimination within our own court system…..also a total zero tolerance against any financial mismanagement or embezzlement within any court chapter…I am proud to say we have backed up this policy and have made courts and their boards more accountable to their membership and communities. But sadly tonight I must report to you an ongoing investigation concerning a $20,000.00 embezzlement within a court chapter… an official report to all of you, within our Intentional Court System, will be given after our next ICC meeting in two weeks. We will not sweep these issues under the rug as took place decades ago.
Two days before the start of 2015…. (a 17 year old transgender girl threw herself in front of a moving bus in Ohio. Before Leelah Alcron committed suicide she wrote the following")
“My death needs to mean something....my death needs to be counted in
the number of transgender people who commit suicide. I want someone to
look at the numbers and say, FIX IT! Fix it society, please”
2015 will continue to be the awakening, emerging and visibility of our transgender community….and we must do our part. I salute both Empress Karina of Los Angeles and Empress Marni Gras of Edmonton for their courage and important leadership….within the US and Canada….and we…..all of us must do more.
My pledge to you in 2015 is that we will focus on our changing communities and times that are upon us. If our court system is going to survive 50 more years, we must take a serious look on our past, presence and future.
I believe our upcoming International Courts Convention/Conference and our first international courts survey and poll of our international membership which will launch this year….will set us in the right course.....for working together. We will be the strength of the courts past and the promise of its future.
Thank you…..and thank you Texas
As we await the final decisions on marriage equality by the Supreme Court, I say to you all......
God Bless Canada, God Bless America, God Bless Mexico
Nicole, Queen Mother I of the Americas
